Hi All! I'm currently saving up to pursue my PhD in Archaeology (focus on pre-colonial N. America, Pre-Bronze Age Aegean, and Human Evolution) and am an avid rock and fossil collector! Living in NYC, I mostly hunt with my partner in NJ, but am originally from the California coast and often make trips back to the golden coast. Very interested in both collectible and "observation only" in-situ finds. Long-time lurker of the forum, but finally decided to join in on the discussions! Thanks everyone!

What was Massachusetts and the surrounding areas like during unpreserved or not-well preserved times?

What were certain times that barely as of yet, not known or poorly known in Vertabrate paleontology like the Cretaceous for example, in massachusetts and the nearby areas like new england and other parts of the northeast like down to about Pennsylvania like during these unreserved times, and what life was likely around there? What animals lived with humans and mammoths during the Younger Dryas in new england?

(I ask for paleoart purposes) what animals lived in the northeastern, more specifically New England, even most specifically massachusetts/cape cod. I want to make a peice with some megafauna that lived during the Younger Dryas, and mabe some early humans if my inability to draw humans becomes at least somewhat better. Thank you! -
Some classmates and I found these materials resembling an arthropod with a potential matching trace while having a field day a few weeks back. Due to the strange preservation and limited material, we've been struggling to ID them. We believe this looks like a partial, segmented arthropod- but it doesn't have the typical higher-quality carbonized preservation. Does anyone have any ideas? Canajoharie River - Canajoharie NY.

One of a kind fossil from MA

Last week on Fossil Friday, the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park added the fossil I found from my post last time and still proud about it because they said on their Facebook page that its only one they have in the collection . Because its the first of its kind I discovered around New England until I find more fossils around that site in North Atteborough just waiting to be discovered with a story to tell. Possible Trilobite and Bivalve Fossils found by side of road in Sharon CT.

Two days ago some workmen laid some stone by the side of a road near a pond in Sharon CT and I found two fossils one that appears to be the back of a Trilobite or a Chiton and another that looks to me like scallops or some other bivalve (I know that scallops and trilobites never existed at the same time). Does anyone have any ideas as to what these could be. Also I know this rock is not from where I found it, it was probably sourced from a local quarry so I would have to check with the highway department of Sharon to figure out where these come from.

I was given this Eurypterid fossil a while back and I was looking to see if anyone had any ideas towards a species, i’ve got no idea where it came from other than somewhere in the New England/Canada area. Someone has told me it looks like an Adelophthalamus but id like some more opinions. Thank you

Hi everyone, I just joined up from southeastern MA. I have 0 experience in fossil hunting, but I do own a couple of fossils and have always been interested in them - I just never realized I could go out and look for them myself... After reading up on this forum I think I will try Cory's Lane in RI within the next couple of weeks and possibly the North Attleboro area near the pumping station and town compost pit (if anyone has any experience here, I'd like to ask a couple of general questions about the N. Attleboro site specifically - land ownership, parking, legality of the site given how close it is to an operating business).

These are from Massachusetts. I cant seem to find the off white purple spotted one anywhere .... is the black ball a jasper? When held up can slightly see in- looks like little veins throughout it. I believe the biggest peice might be iasper and tiny green one quartz? Thanks in advance....
