Hello, I’m looking for help identifying this tooth. We were shark tooth hunting in Florida and found this in the dry sand. It was in an area between a bay and the ocean. It is about 0.75” in length. Any thoughts?

Hello everyone one, this is my first post on here and I was hoping to try and figure out what this mystery bone is. It was found on the coast of North Carolina near the town of Duck on the ocean side on 12/25/23. This is for sure a modern bone and not a fossil. I am led to believe this piece is from a sea turtle shell, though I am not 100% sure. The piece itself is roughly 13 cm across, a little over a cm thick, and about 8 cm tall in the middle point. The piece appears to connect to other bone structures from just about every side except for the points of the "wings". If you all have any suggestions as to what this could be that would really help! Thank you!

A friend of mine asked me to identify this fossil and I'm not sure what it is. She doesn't remember where she found it but the general location is southern Illinois, could've been found max 45 minutes out from Maryville, IL.

I found this fossil a few years ago along the Orange County, CA coastline. It was already partially smooth when found but I polished it a bit. Looks to be some shell fragments, possibly clams or oysters, mixed with silica and other local material.The colors are beautiful. Any thoughts on what the fossils may be? measures 7” x 5” x 3” and weighs roughly 5lb. Thank you!

I found this shell at half moon bay in Northern California, It washed up on shore. Im pretty sure it’s a fossil - I’m wondering what type of shell it is, and possibly how old it could be? Any help would be much appreciated! Approx dimensions: L3” x W2.5” x H1.5”

Someone over on Reddit told me this is a trace of the base of a Crinoid (feather duster?). Firstly looking to confirm this, and secondly trying to understand the average age. Found on an ocean beach on Long Island, NY. From what I understand this area is quite young and formed via a glacier... although I am not sure how this affects the potential age of rocks/fossils on the beaches. I am VERY new to this, so just trying to learn about my area. Thanks!

This fossil was found in Nowra Formation sandstone (Late Permian). Location is Pointer Mountain NSW, below Little Forest Plateau. I want to know if this fossil is biological and if so is it plant or animal? I took this photo in 2022 and didn’t know to take measurements sorry but from memory it’s over 1ft long. I’ve done a lot of hiking in this area and seen the typical invertebrate fossils but never found one quite like this. From my uneducated guess it reminds me of a rib cage bone of a marine animal or if it’s plant material I’m thinking it could be some kind of seaweed. There are clear fine lines parallel along the curved the structure. The last photo is of the entire boulder that it was found on for context. If you have an answer please include some reasoning to help me learn. THANK YOU

I found this stone at the beach amongst lots of other fossils and stones. I’ve never encountered a stone/fossil/mineral like this one here in Norway, and I’m absolutely fascinated by it. I’m fascinated by rocks, minerals and fossils in general, but I grew up far away up in the Norwegian mountains. These kind of rocks/fossils I found in Holmestrand is not my field of expertise or knowledge, and I couldn’t find anything that resembles this rocks online or in books on the online library. So I figured that it’s faster to just ask you guys what you think? I do believe it’s a fossil of some sort, but it looks like partly mineralization as well? Or like a different mix of different types of rocks? The bottom reminds me of “Skifer” stone, but it doesn’t quite add up and I can’t verbalize why. The top shimmers in the right light, didn’t see it until my kitten didn’t like that the stone received more attention than him and decided he should get my attention by standing between the rock and my light source(amongst other things). I haven’t dared/had capacity to give the stone a proper wash yet. I’m still a newbie.

I found this at big Brook in New Jersey last May and was wondering if anyone could help me identify it. It is similar to Enchodus teeth and mosasaur material that I have found but much more thick. I believe that it is too narrow to be mosasaur and was wondering if anyone could help me id it, if it is anything at all. It is very worn down and reflective so getting clear pictures of the details was a challenge. I pointed out a ridge in the tooth that was on both sides in one of the pictures that is more visible than can be pictured. edit : Big Brook is mainly Upper Cretaceous material.

On our recent trip to Cape May Nj we stayed bay side in Villas and I found some pretty cool finds! The first photos I’m pretty sure are coral fossils (based on browsing this site) but the last few photos I am stumped. Any help would be great! My problem may be I have to great an imagination when it comes to rocks!

Have a collection of what appear to fossils though none authenticated, samples below. If correct, as they come in different media. Closest have found regarding simple care is a mixture of water and Elmers glue mixed up to to 90-10. Results are disappointing bt would like to have advice as some turn rust colored after a while. Additional question, is it advisable to wash salt from sea off before storing? Many different varieties including fossilized bone.

Found this fossilized structure. Not sure what it is from. Bf says it’s from shark tooth and I say it’s not…it looks pointy from one side like a vertebrae.

Hello, I live in western Kentucky and work at a resort and marina on ky lake i always find small cylindrical fossils but today I found a giant cluster of them I figured it to be some kind of salt water plant but any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated

Hi all! I found this bone on the Gulf of Mexico, near Gasparilla island amongst some shells on the beach. It is white and smooth and I think it might be a molar, but to what? A manatee? A dolphin? I think it's pretty recent its white and sun bleached. Thanks for your help!

Hello everyone! This is my very first post here and I really hope to get some help with identification. Over the course of the last couple of weeks, I have been finding these cylindrical fossils in a coastal area of NJ that was once covered in ocean. I don't have much information on the area but was told by one paleontologist that fossils from here typically come from 10 mya and marine mammal fossil finds are relatively common. He took a look at some of these photos and could not offer any possible identification or ideas. I have been able to find bits and pieces and glue them together but continue to become baffled at what this could possibly be. There are prominent growths (or "horns") on these fossils, and inside it looks like it's a spongey or marrow-like material. I initially thought it could possibly be coral, but I cannot observe any similarities to your typical coral fossils. Any and ALL help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Found in the ocean (gulf coast) but have no idea what it could be. It is brownish/black in color and is hard, approx 2 inches tall. Looks like the shape of a tooth to me but cannot find anything else that looks similar any help in identification would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I found this on a beach along Croatian coast and was unlike any of the surrounding rocks/geology. It's symmetrical and submarine-shaped. I'm wondering if it's a fossil v. a natural formation. Any information is greatly appreciated!

I found this rock with a shell imprint on the beach in North Carolina. I have searched around on the Internet but I’ve not been able to find anything quite like it. I find it interesting because it appears to not only be the imprint of a conical shell but a cross-section of the shell itself because of the sharp contrasted color and outlines. Although it appears black in the picture the rock is actually a deep brown color and was clearly once very jagged but has been smoothed. Any help identifying the rock and the shell would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
