04/13/2020: End of my lock-down. Visited a locality with oncoids-oncolites in the Santonian - Lower Campanian Geistthal-formation (59) of the Gosau-basin of Kainach. Locality is near Kreuzwirt south of Geistthal and was told to my by a friend, so I will keep it secret. This is a specimen from block 1. Most of block 1 is still there, I removed only about 2 kg (2 specimens) of the about 40 kg heavy block. Only two more blocks of this material were found, despite really good outcrops just nearby (with alternations of conglomerates, sandstones and siltsones). There should be a better locality west of Geistthal, but have not found anything there during previous visits. Last but not least some typical landscape of the Gosau-basin of Kainach. Cherry trees etc. are blooming at the moment, but everything was soooo try. But we finally had some rain during last night! Franz Bernhard

Finding a lot of fossil wood this past week. Agates to for carving. The bedrock underneath the gravel at Stillwell Ranch is limestone packed with fossils. Mostly Rudist. Then there are enigma. This stone has the blue infill, I associate with one type of fossil wood preservation. I thought it was a cluster of horn coral initially. But they don't pack up like this. No septa at all. Just finger length long ovals, width of your big toe...........The best detail are the onion layers which are micro crenelated. The end photo seems to have bisected a number of the lobe features. I think they were long and egg shaped un-eroded. With a hollow cavity in the center that was filled with blue & white chalcedony. Chime in if you have a good idear or two of what this is.:

Hello guys. I'm very new in fossil collection. Not so long ago I purchased a box with stones, meteorites and fossils at garage sale. Now I'm trying my best to ID what is what. Can you please help me to identify those cross section slabs I posted on photos. Size of bigger slab is 82mm (3.2inch), thickness is 6.6mm (0.26inch). It has distinctive pattern of spiral "oncolite stromatolite dots". All sort of suggestions will be very helpful. Unfortunately no information was left by previous owner of that box. Cheers
