I am fortunate enough to have such a huge amount of Middle Devonian Givetian material that I thought it best to put the older Middle Devonian stage, the Eifelian, in its own thread. There are some spectacular fossils here as well though! I thought a good place to start would be in the Formosa Reef, which I believe is quite early Eifelian. This tabulate coral and stromatoporoid reef continues similar complexes found from the Middle Silurian, see my: https://www.thefossilforum.com/topic/84678-adams-silurian/page/3/ thread from page three onwards for details. All these Formosa Reef specimens come from a delightful gift from my good friend @Monica who is a tad busy with life at the moment but is fine and still thinking of the forum. This outcrop can be found on Route 12 near Formosa/Amherstburg, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. This beautiful-looking specimen came to me with only a third of it revealed but I managed to get it this far after nine days of painful pin prepping. Monica found another one and posted it for ID here: https://www.thefossilforum.com/topic/105528-weird-circular-imprints-formosa-reef-lower-devonian/#comment-1172285 The specimen was identified by another Canny Canadian @Kane to be the little stromatoporoid sponge Syringostroma cylindricum. Hardly a reef-builder, but gorgeous nonetheless. It does have a little thickness to it, but not much. Beautiful! Pretty thin, actually. I love this Monica, thank you!

I am new to this group and would appreciate any help provided in identifying this fossil. All I know is that it is a coral; I found it in the Wainfleet, ON area decades ago.

Hello again, I have some more photographs of fossil specimens that I am unsure about or looking to confirm. Appreciate the help. 1. Devonian, Genesee Formation from around Dansville, NY. Agonatite? Gastropod? 2. Also Devonian, Onondaga Formation I believe, Erie Co.. I am not great at trace classification ID beyond that it looks to be a trace burrow 3. Devonian Moscow Fm., Erie Co. The little fossils on the left side of image? Can't find any sources on these. Neat trilobite eye in the rock. 4. Rugose Coral, Devonian Livingston Co. What is the fossil attached to the coral body? 5. Irondequoit Formation I believe. Definitely from Lockport, NY. These Bryozoa or some type of coral?

I recently discovered this in the Devonian Onondaga Formation of Ontario and am thinking it’s either a Placoderm or a Onychodontid based off the armour like texture which does not match any coral in the formation, their is also the presence of odd spine like structures. Any idea if it is one of these species?

Help identifying Devonian fossils in limestone from Western NY

I grabbed all these samples over the years from the same rock quarry in western New York, which excavates the Middle Devonian Onondaga Formation. I believe most of these are corals, but I was hoping someone could help specify what type of coral so I can organize them a bit better. I resized the pictures with the provided links to lower the quality, hopefully they are not too big still. Appreciate the help. 1. Two different fossils in this cherty material, on left I believe this is Rugose Coral because visible septa, but on the right above the letter "L" in the coin I am not sure if it is even a coral 2&3. A tabulate corals, I always believed this to be Favosites, but also some images of coral Emmonsia that I had not heard of that look similar, but I can't find many other sources on it. Is there a way to tell based on the pattern what type of tabulate coral it is? 4. Brachiopod? Bivalve? Not sure what more I can figure beyond that. The matrix for this one is very chalky

Fossil hunting in the Bois Blanc and Onondaga formations

Hi this is my topic on fossil hunting in the Bois Blanc and Onondaga formation of southern Ontario. Not to far on the cliffs of Lake Erie by Dunnville Ontario there are lots of Outcrops of the Bois Blanc formation and Onondaga formation, there are a few Silurian outcrops in the town on the banks of the Grand River with a few fossils, but nothing like the Devonian Outcrops of Lake Erie’s cliffs. There mostly around Rock Point Provincial Park you can’t!! keep fossils here because it’s illegal to take fossils out of any provincial park. I’ve been collecting in these two formations for years, and good quality fossils are hard in the two formations. These two formations were a shallow reef in the the Devonian period, the formations are 419.2 million to 358.9 million years old. Most fossils from this area are corals, crinoids, brachiopods, cephalopods, and some Trilobites, there the more common fauna. Hope this helps with something. I will post some of my finds from these formations later.
