Hello everyone, So my husband and I are more rock than fossil fans but somehow we have these two things in our collection and i really want to know what they are and how old they are. The petrified wood was in a collection we bought from a guy who received it from a collector in France. The bivalve am i not really sure if it was in the same collection or my husband bought it from someone in Romania. Any help will be appreciated. I'm sorry for the quality of the photos.

Hello! I found this item in the mouth of a creek that empties into The Great South Bay on L.I. The creek has been used by Indigenous Peoples before European settlers arrived circa 1720. Is this a petrified oyster? I can’t tell for sure, but I feel the dark/gray/silver area is what’s left of the calcium? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve found lots of bone on the beach. But this was a rare find. It looks like a small bit of wood fused onto the bone. I’ve collected for years, but definitely consider myself an amateur. curious to hear any opinions.

Both of these possibly came from the Galveston TX area, they were found in a box with other Texas items. Both are heavy. And one shell has other fossil like pieces attached to it. These were inherited from a deceased relative so I don’t have much info on them. Both have pinkish blue insides. Any help is appreciated!

Hello all! I found this in a creek in Stark County, Illinois over the summer. I’ve been hunting fossils all my life and I’ve never seen anything like this. At first I thought it was a piece of pottery, but it’s more wood-like. Kinda. I mean, I’m stumped. Any thoughts would be appreciated! (Roku remote for scale…ha)

Hello everyone! The smaller piece I found in the woods in NC, and polished it up some. Not sure if it’s wood or bone, or?? If it is bone, any idea what type? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone!!

Anyone want to weigh in on if this is a fossil or not? The base rock (not the crystals) looks like petrified wood to me, but I don't have much experience IDing petrified wood. It is a strange formation.

Can someone tell me what kind of sea creature this might have been?

Hello folks. I'm new here but I used to be a member about 5 years ago but wasn't really active so I just started a new account. I have this rock here I found on the Dry Frio River here in Texas. The shape is strangely symmetrical and it's silica of some kind which is what organic matter turns into over a period of millions of years if the conditions are right. Does this shape look familiar to anybody? It has the shape of a all sting ray or something similar. The curvature on the top is also symmetrical. I've tried sanding the petina off it but it hardly worked.- 7 replies

I was creek walking today and found this 15 lb piece of petrified wood. I looked up similar sized pieces but I feel like this may be "extra cool"? I don't know much about fossils but I have a passion for wood formations and this seems to be a knot from the tree with the burl or tumor in tact on the back side. My question is if it were to be sliced would it be more valuable because of the natural swirling of the burl? Or is this even a cool find at all? I'm new here guys haha! Thanks in advance for any input or comments!

Hi guys! I am looking for new areas to hunt for rocks and fossils around the KC area. I have been to the Blue river, Kansas river, Cedar creek, Tuttle creek, Perry Lake, Mill creek, and abandoned quarry areas. Anyone have any general locations of where I can find some stuff? I am an avid hunter for all sorts of fossils and rocks (rockhounding is my favorite past time)! I've had the most luck at the Kansas river and Perry lake. Some of my finds include cow skulls, cone coral, shells, agates, vertebrae, and a bunch of druzy quartz geodes and chalcedony. I have included pics of some of my finds - the petrified wood was sanded down and polished up to 3000 grit. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!!!! Much love KC!
