Hi guys, back in the first half of October 2022 I went to the capital of the Philippines, which is Manila. I decided to hit the National Museum of Natural History, which is located in near the old historical Spanish part of Manila. Below is the entrance to the museum and I got in for free; all I had to do was show my ID (they took my Canadian ID as valid) and a proof of vaccination. A bust of Jose Rizal on the entrance. I got to the exhibits that showcases the fossils that can be found locally in the Philippines, mostly Jurassic and Cretaceous. Even though these two periods are not my interest since my locality in Ontario is mostly Ordovician/Silurian, I decided it was I'll take. Here are pics of the newly renovated interior hall. Did you guys know this museum was actually bombed during WW2 during the Japanese occupation? It was unfortunate but thank goodness the building was rebuilt.

Found several of these while digging a hole for the swimming pool in our house. It was very surprising as I found hundred of them. Can anyone tell it is century old. I took a video of my discovery too.

Megalodon - Philippines

I have here a Megalodon that the seller claims is found in the Philippines. I'm requesting more information, but none is provided. As far as I know these teeth are rare, and it doesn't seem to me that this preservation is of the Philippines. I'd like some more opinions on this please. Edit: I received provenance from the seller, who contacted the supplier for it. The claim is that this Megalodon tooth was found in Sarangani Island, Mindanao, on the beach. I found a geological map of the Island via http://portal.onegeology.org/OnegeologyGlobal/: The formation of Sarangani (the island to the right, despite what this map says) is noted to be "Upper Miocene-Pliocene." Thus, the formation dates back to 11.6 million years, to 2.58 million years at its youngest, and appears to coincide with Megalodon. The part I'm less certain about is the preservation. I'm thankful that the map describes some of the details of that, namely, "Largely marine clastics (molasse) overlain by extensive, locally transgressive pyroclastics (chiefly tuff, tuffites) and tuffaceous sedimentary rocks." I'm wondering if these elements explain the preservation of the tooth I'm looking at.

This sample was stained by rose bengal solution. it was sampled from the intertidal zone in Apo reef natural park in mindoro, Philippines, around >5m depth. I'm confused on what species is this. I have no other pictures since we are under a community quarantine here in Manila so I have no access with my microscope.

Hello, I am currently re-sorting my collection and this brings up some questions about some modern shark teeth. For example, I found two teeth of this appearance. At first glance, I would suspect a Carcharhinus species (like C. falcifromis, but the teeth look different) , but I don't know which. Unfortunately, I don't find any comparable teeth in the Internet. Even if this isn't a fossil this time, I hope that you can help me again. The tooth is 1,3cm (0,51") in size and from the philippines. Best regards from Germany!
