  1. I picked up this Megalodon tooth fossil in a fossil shop in Orkney. I’ve had it for little under a year now and am only just now considering it’s authenticity. To me it seems legit, mostly due to the condition of the top and I cannot find any evident tells of casting. Anyone with more expertise able to give me an answer? See pictures attached. Thanks, John. Additional information: Price - £75 Size - 4.7” Weight - 5.4 Oz / 156g
  2. I propose to buy this specimen if it is real. The seller told me that this specimen should belong to the pliosaur based on his experience, but I had a hard time to identify whether it is an ichthyosaur tooth or a pliosaur tooth. Is it an ichthyosaur tooth or a pliosaur tooth?
  3. First up, the seller of this egg stated upfront this is a replica, so this isn't a scam warning. Here, we have an oviraptor egg that could fool even experienced collectors. It looks realistic because it's made out of real oviraptor eggshells. It's even covered with a coating of matrix. This is common practice; I've seen hadrosaur eggs are faked this way, with plaster mixed in to make the egg seem round and heavy. For reference, here's a real Oviraptor (Elongatoolithus sp.) that's been professionally prepped. Oviraptor eggs are commonly faked, so four ways t
  4. I am thinking about buying a Hadrosaur center toe fossil. Before I buy the fossil I am wondering if they are real or fake and how I can tell.

  6. Want to know if this is real and if it's real is it a Deinotherium tooth and if so is it worth getting or could I find better? The information given: - From upper Miocene age (Sarmatian) ca: 11-13 million years old Deinotherium (ancient elephant with tooth like hoe) Prodeinotherium bavaricum upper left M2 (penultimate) molar. The tooth was found near Gornji Vakuf in Bosnia. Size ca: 74 mm x 74 mm x 75 mm. Weight: 408 gram + packing. The root of the tooth was mouldered, the remained part was impregnated with glue. The part of the enamel in some places is partial.
  7. I am new and I need your oppinion about this Spinosaurus tooth:
  8. Hello I am trying to figure out if this specimen is real or if parts of it are composites. I do know that a protective coating has been put on to protect it, and that it had to be glued together once, but I am not sure if the digits on the hands are real or if the ribs are real. Thanks!
  9. Hiya bought this a couple days ago from a fossil and gem store wanted to know if it was legit
  10. I purchased this Mosasaur tooth from a local fossil and crystal shop, I assume that the tooth is real but Im nut sure if the root is real or its just set for display.

After finding this forum, I felt like I should post what I purchased here for a peace of mind ( I'm new here ) Can someone give their opinions on whether these two are fake/real ? Thanks in advance

  18. My great aunt gave this to me years ago, and I would like to know if it is real. I know there are tons of fakes, and would like to see if mine is real.
  19. Hey there! I am relatively new to fossil collecting and hope to go on to do some hunting etc, but anyways! I am considering purchasing this keichousaurus hui attached and wondered if it is a real or a fake? As I know you need to be extremely careful when buying one of these due to the hight amount of fakes being produced. Thanks!
  20. Hello everyone im new here , really exited to find this forum for discussion and information about fossils. Now to my problem i bought this trilobite 28cm (''cambropallas telesto'' if im not mistaken) from a local store from what they said to me this was imported from UK, when i got a closer look seemed to me that most of the ridges of the trilobite are engraved man-made by some kind of clay. So my question is any part of it real? I would have posted more pics but the files are too big. Thanks in advance.
  21. Hi all. Is this Keichousaurus real or fake? This product is very cost-effective,but I have to admit there are dubious areas like the head and too-perfect tail I just want a confirmation form the experts Thanks My English isn't very good, please don't mind
  22. I found this Dilophosaurus tooth for sale online and am suspicous of its authenticity. The problem is I don't know a lot (or anything) about dinosaur teeth and how one would go about spotting a cast. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
  23. I found this upper canine from a Smilodon for sale online. The number of surface imperfections lead me to believe the tooth is authentic though it could be a particularly well done cast. The seller has a couple other Smilodon fossils both of which seem legitimate. However the fossil is coming from China and I hear falsified fossils are very common in China. I would greatly appreciate another opinion thanks.
  24. I found this trilo for sale online, seller claims the species is Parahomalontus however I cannot find much info on this species. Can anyone help me ID this trilo and tell whether or not it is fake? Thanks.
