Hi all! I hope this is appropriate for me to ask, but I was just wondering if anyone knew of any roadcuts that are good to hunt at in the Rockford area. I'm planning on visiting the Burpee Musuem today, then hopefully fossil hunt around the area. I've heard talk of roadcuts that are quite rewarding there, but I can't find the exact location of them. If anyone is willing to share please let me know! If not that is ok too Thank you!

Mississippian Roadcuts and quarries in Alton Illinois
Joseph Fossil posted a topic in Questions & Answers
I've been looking recently into possibly fossil hunting by Alton, Illinois for specimens of Mississippian era fauna. I'm specifically looking for general places like roadcuts and quarries with 330-340 million year old St. Louis Limestone (Meramec group) in the Alton area. I'm just wondering (without anyone being too specific about localities) is there any general places like quarries or roadcuts that match that description in Alton, Illinois?-

I'm here in Huntsville Alabama visiting my father for two weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on roadcuts or locations to hunt in for any general fossil types. I'm not looking at any specific Era or anything like that, just fossils. I've done research of my own, and have some locations down, but I'd like to get the word of some locals or others who've hunted this state successfully. Thank you.

Hey all! Need some recommendations (if any out there) on climbing spikes for hiking shoes/boots. Most locations I hunt are steep hillsides or road cuts. I recently used some hiking/snow cleat attachments to my hiking shoes hoping it would give me additional traction on a steep rocky road cut but the stress to the cleat snapped the rubber/metal. Does anyone have any product names they trust when investing in safety gear? My main locations I hunt are Brookville & St. Leon, Indiana. Thanks!!!
