I had purchased a few items from an estate sale of a gentlemen who was an archeologist that had past and this was in the lot. I was curious if this could be a fossilized bone? The texture seemed to be different than a rock, but not sure. Location was in southern Tennessee, but unsure of his travels. I don’t believe this could be enough to identify which species.

I found this today on a beach. It's magnetic but seems to have minerals in it. Possibly a meteorite or iron rock? No idea.

Hi everyone! A buddy of mine recently bought this as an "unknown fossil" and sent me some pics to see if I could ID it. My ID is that it's a rock and not a fossil but I figured I'd post it here on his behalf in the desperate hope I'm wrong. Apparently it was found somewhere in East Texas.

Trying to find out any information. I inherited 2 Fossils that were my deceased ex-husband. I don't know anything about them..they are made of rock.i know nothing about Fossils. How old is it..yes that is the whole fossil..I think the tail is curled up on the back?

I've had this for quite some time and it's always been interesting to me. But I am not sure if it's a Fossil or what it is? It has a different texture. It's about 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.

This was found on South Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. Most of the piece is worn but there are some smooth surfaces. The shape is irregular. Is this a worn fossil or a weird rock?

when i rub a piece of petrified wood fast against it, a powder forms thats super fine kinda like bone & smells like sawing bone its unpleasant & tastes even worse please tell me what this is & that im not gonna get any diseases licking this i seriously think i just licked something weird tell me im stupid please

I picked this up on the beach yesterday. It is heavy and has some characteristics of bone but internal structure is more rock-like. Would love help with identifying.

I found this strange cubed rock or maybe bone in a creek bed right along the Platte River in eastern Nebraska. The Pawnee tribes used to have a village only about 3 miles down the river from where I found it. I also found a piece of smoky hills jasper along with it. It’s almost a perfect cube with one side having a tiny ledge. It’s smooth on 4 sides and has sort of a sanded down feel on the other two which would make your top and bottom. I do not believe it is sandstone by location and other examples I’ve seen . Very hard, and somewhat heavy for its size. The lick test tells me it’s bone but I am totally unsure here. I tried to get close up pictures of texture.

Hello! I found this rock on a former river bed in a forest in Romania. If it helps, the rock type in this area is from pleistocene. I tried finding a simillar one with the same pattern and color but couldn’t find one. Thank you in advance! .

Hey folks. Totally new here so please go gentle if this is obviously a rock.... I spent a bit of time down on the Jurassic Coast in the UK, Charmouth to be more precise. Whilst there I did abit of fossil hunting and, disappointingly, feel like I didnt find alot. I did find a small Ammonite but I also found a strangely shaped "item".... Ive added as many pictures as I could get from different angles. I don't have a ruler to hand so I added a pencil for reference, the pencil is generally new and un sharpened so id say about 18/19 cm. Any help on identifying it would be great! Thank you in advance

Hello everyone, I am very happy I just took my first trip fossil hunting in Eastern UK, specifically in Tankerton an Herne Bay. Amateurs as we are, we were not sure what we were looking for, so did our best and grabbed the items that most caught our attention hoping they are fossils, also hoping that I could come to this forum and ask those with more experience about them. Sorry if the answers are too obvious! 1) In Herne Bay we found 6 shark teeth, I am pretty sure they are fossilised. One of them is a bit translucent and sharper, and I am not sure if that's from a contemporary shark, ir just happens to be a really well preserved fossil. 2) I also found an Oyster shell, it seems to me very "rocky", I want it to be a fossil but I don't know. 3) There is also this green item that looks like a partial beer coaster, but feels and looks like stone. Any ideas what that could be? 4) I think this one is a fossilised small snail shell, it has markings of concentric circles on the side, and has a shape that fits that of a snail, but that's about it. 5) We found many rocks with these features: light brown colour with patterns that remind me of a Cactus Lithops. Anyone know what these are? 6) Hopefully belemnite pieces, but honestly probably just rocks. 7) Found this rocky fragment with wave-like markings, I am much more confident about this one being a fossil than the other items besides the tooth. Ideas? 8) What I thought could be the point end of another snail shell. 9) We found these white and somewhat translucent rocks, anyone know which mineral they are? 10) And we also found these geodes with small crystals inside them. They do not wash out with water so I am sure the crystals are not salt haha, any ideas? Also, what looks like dirt in the picture is not dirt, I tried cleaning these rocks with water and my fingers and the brown stuff seems part of the minerals. Thanks a lot, and sorry for the long text!!

I'm not sure I am doing this right since this is my first post. I want any feedback on these rocks that remind me of seashells'. Each pic is of a different rock. The 1rst, 2nd, & 4rth rocks are the size of my palm, the 3rd is nickel size. The 4rth rock has alot going on_zoom in on the areas pointed out with the pink arrows...Thnx

Can't drill a hole in it or break it. Found it in my pas old war stuff he left me. Someone said it was a fossilized dinosaur egg but who knows. Never been on a site like this before so I'm just winggin it with this post. Anyone have a suggestion on what I found? Thanks!

I have had this for years and honestly don't remember where it came from. It has crystals all through out it and has some weight to it. Any idea what it is?

I have lived in Wilmington NC recently moved to Myrtle Beach SC known for finding Meglodon and many other sharks teeth. I’ve found a few smaller teeth yet ran across this the other day. It looks to me like a fragment of a possible megalodon but I’m a newbie to this. It’s intriguing me tremendously! What’s your opinion?

It does stick to my tongue, the broken pieces were a “shell” covering the rock. Anything helps! Found in a dirt pile with lots of rocks, however this one realllyyy stuck out and caught my eye.

We live in a part of Florida that is known to be the only very “hilly” part of the entire state. Which leads me to believe many years ago water filled these natural curves in the land. I often forage for animal bones of animals that have died of natural causes recently, and collect pretty rocks as a hobby. This one threw me for a loop.. bone like color and smoothness.. very circular holes as if something once occupied them.. but a rocky structure underneath. I was hoping for anyone to help me ID what this might be, whether that be a cast, a fossil, or a really neat rock. Was afraid to clean it up because I’m not sure of the ID yet. Thanks for all your help!

I dug this out of a creek bed in eastern Iowa about 9 years ago. I saw the top sticking out of the dirt. The creek bed was probably 20' down +/- a few feet. It was near another rock I dug out the same day that was just a 20lb rock of quartz. There's a couple spots that chipped off showing the white inside making me think it's just quartz. But the shape of it looks like a mushroomed bullet like it impacted the ground. I don't know a lot about how rocks are formed but I don't think quartz is ever pliable enough to form the way this thing did. A friend of mine saw it the other day and got really excited. He asked where I got the dinosaur vertebrae. I never thought about it being a vertebrae till then. When I Googled a dinosaur vertebrae it looks like it could be. I just hope I haven't been keeping a 30lb petrified turd in my living room for 9+ years. So if anyone has any ideas on what I have please feel free to let me know.

I found this at the bottom of a bowl of rocks I was sorting today. I have no idea where it came from. I took photos of all four sides. It is approximately 2" high. Thank you in advance! I love this site!!!!!
