    Scouting Kingston Ontario

Staying at Bobs lake in Ontario this week for the family’s summer trip. Unfortunately the area we’re staying at is unfossiliferous, being compromised of Precambrian granite and gneiss, however scouting out nearby Kingston and I’m hopeful at my prospects. I have a few sites I’ve scouted out and plan to hit in the following days, but I’d like to ask more about the laws/do’s and don’ts before I start any digging. I’ve read a few articles online and it’s started to make me rethink digging, so any further information helps out. Thanks for reading, and I hope I can follow this up with a successful post!
  2. My 15 year old daughter and I have been collecting for about 2 years covering Venice Beach Shark tooth diving, Colorado, Oregon Coast, Arizona, New Mexico, South Dakota and more to come! Our favorite finds are shark teeth fossils, petrified wood, agates, shells, and fossils of all sizes. I’m an airline pilot and like to get out searching on layovers when I can too.

Thankyou ahead of time! This could be nothing as i am an amateur in most perspectives but on my normal dog walk/ rockhounding adventure i picked up something different, half buried, but uncovered in some new trails made by some heavy equipment here in south east nebraska. Will add several photos, im not sure of anything except i know its not a rock im familiar with! Thankyou again for any information!

    Hello from Montana

My boyfriend and i recently took up rockhounding and we love it. But we're still learning. We just got back from Arizona visiting my sister and stopped a couple of places to pick up a couple of pieces. We're already planning on next year's trip! We have 2 wet tile saws looking to upgrade real soon. And i am shopping for a wet/dry grinder polisher. Among other things.
  9. Hey guys was just wanting a consensus on alternative names for colourless Chalcedony specimens? I've been doing a lot of collecting at a local beach where this variant of chalcedony is rather common but I'm really stumped as to naming these under-rated specimens. I love collecting them as they often look like glass or ice, with or without banding and/or inclusions, but I feel like I'm doing them no favours by just referring to it as "colourless". Cheers, Jasper. Ps: Some geologic background - The chalcedony and agate specimens at this beach have been worn away out of Cretaceous-Paleogene intermediate and felsic volcanic rocks by rivers and carried down to the ocean where they are further tumbled and deposited by long shore drift.

Hello, my name is Tim. I've come to this site in hopes of gaining knowledge and possibly offer some of my own. I have some finds that maybe people could help me understand what I found over time. Thank you all and I hope to have posts ready this evening as I am at work.
