My family found quite a few baculite sections last weekend (including the one attached) and thanks to the help from this group we now know what we have. We were not specifically fossil hunting when we found them and were not equipped to collect many of them. We are going back to the site this weekend (if the weather is favorable) and I’d love any suggestions for properly collecting these pieces. My family stumbled across quite a few pieces of fossilized bone over the weekend in Southeast Wyoming. We counted 40+ pieces that are between 2-6” in height and oval in shape. They were spread out over an area approx 40’ wide. We also found what might be a tooth along with sereral other unidentifiable pieces. This was a very exciting find for us and I would love to learn more about what (or who) we found! Please let me know if you need additional photographs or any other info.
