    Vertebrate or Pseudofossil

Hi all. I was was hoping to get help with this one from the community. It was found in-stream near an outcropping of Pittsburg Bluff in Clatsop County, Oregon, and downstream of some Astoria Formation, both marine sediments. I have found mollusks and arthropods in the same collecting area, usually in very hard concretions. To my knowledge no marine vertebrate fossils have been found within the Pittsburg Bluff Group so if it is vertebrate I'm thinking it came down from the Astoria Formation southwest of the area. It looks and feels like bone, and is extremely porous (tongue sticks). Or it may just be a pseudofossil. Either way, thank you for the help.
  2. Hello! I recently had the chance to return to my favorite fossil collecting location in Monmouth County (Holmdel) and came across some things that were unfamiliar to me. Could you please help me with identification? Any and all help is greatly appreciated! 1. I think this may be a tooth from some mammal. Perhaps not a fossil? There are lots of farms and wild deer in the area. 2. This one is embedded in a sedimentary matrix. It looks chitinous to me, so maybe it is related to ghost shrimp? 3. I have no idea what these could potentially be. Thank you so much!
  3. These are some odd stream finds (fossils? / weird concretions?) from a spring 2022 trip the Ramanessin Brook in Holmdel, NJ. They were all recovered from the Cretaceous stream bed sediment. This is my first time uploading for ID help, so I apologize for any issues with photo quality or lack of scale (I still need to invest in a ruler). Thank you so much for any and all help! 1. I did not realize how they would turn out until they were on my computer.

    Gift ID

@RandyB gifted me this fossil and my failing mind forgot its identity. Hopefully Randy, being quite a bit younger than me, will remember. I believe he said Ramenissan as the location.
  5. Recently I took a trip up to central New Jersey in the US with my sister for our 2nd trip fossil hunting; at a place called “big brook preserve”. As I was sifting through looking at some fossils that I could identify such as shark teeth and fossilized poop with my very basic studying from the Internet and stuff I’ve seen on tv. She calls me over at something she had found while sifting through the dirt in the brook. Thinking that I’d be able to identify it for her I was stumped. it looks like it has characteristics of a fossil from what I think but with my limited knowledge and understanding I keep going back to the idea of “nah it can’t be” And thinking it’s just a cool rock. Either way the water seemed to do a number on this this find eroding it over the years. Also the finds in this brook are usually Cretaceous period specimens and the occasional dinosaur fossil is rare, and reptile fossils are a tiny bit rare too here I think. I have a couple pictures that I took that night when we returned home. I’ll take better lit pictures if these aren’t adequate enough, but the main question I have that’s been bothering me is; is it a rock or a fossil from something once living? Side note the front is slightly smoothed/curved and the back is mostly flat. Please and thank you to anyone willing to help. I’ve also taken the time since then to email 2 local universities for assistance too if that’s even possible.

    Unknown tooth, possibly whale

Found this while sifting in a creek in Summerville SC. Found alongside a wide variety of other fossils (variety of shark teeth, dolphin teeth, horse teeth and other pleistocene bones) so cant pinpoint the time frame. But can't find anything that matches and thinking it may be a whale?

    Tooth?

Went in a stream in Charleston and found a bunch of shark teeth but I found this guy and have no clue what it is! Anyone have any thoughts?

    The sharks in the stream

Had a great time shark tooth hunting in a stream in Charleston, SC. Wish I knew what types of sharks they came from but pretty good haul I think!
  10. Hello everyone, Does anybody know what this might be? Found in a stream in the forest in the region of calvados, Normandy,France. I have never found anything like this. U cant really see the details of the thing sticking out of the spongelike matrix in the pics cause my camera is not the best. But here we go:
  11. I found what I think is a bone head many years ago at Whispering Pines Camp in Franklinville, NY, which is in Cattaraugus County. It was sitting exposed at the edge of a small stream that runs through the camp, on a hill. I apologize for not having scale in the photos. The measurements are: 2.5 cm thick, 4.5 cm across at very top, 3.5 cm top to bottom as pictured.

    Need ID Help please!

I found this in a stream in central Missouri, USA. Not sure what it is... in the base it appears that a crinoid existed in it and that this may have been some sort of cap or stem from a crinoid- however I can't find any pictures of anything like this. Any help would be appreciated!
  13. Joe_17

Need help on these 2 finds.

I need help identifying what kind of tooth this is. Was told it could be a bison or bovine tooth. But is there a way of positively identifying it ? And is the second a nodule of some sort ?
  14. I found all of these (possible?)fossils in a trout stream in an old patch of forest in waupaca county Wisconsin. Any ID help would be appreciated. Thank you

    Fossil or rock/mineral

Found these while sifting in a creek in Summerville SC. Not sure if this a fragment of a tooth or some sort of rock/mineral growth. There's some strange layering on them and I havent seen anything like it before. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
  16. SCfossilhunter

    Unknown bone or tooth

Not quite sure what I'm looking at here, looks like a bone but there are serrations on either side, is this a tooth of some sort or just a fish bone? Found alongside small shark teeth of all varieties and dolphine/whale fossils.
