    Turtle shell with bone?

This is a turtle shell I believe, but not sure what’s on underside. Is this a bone? Also a collection from a morning stroll. This was the day for horse teeth! One shark tooth, and I believe a piece of tusk. All on same walk. Very cool!

    Two items from today

Found these today. At first I thought it was a cone shell because of the overall shape. But when I cleaned it off I thought it was Strombus floridanis but the the heavy lines on the body and fine lines on the top threw me. The coral is interesting but unknown to me. Any feed back is appreciated.

    Something really odd

The one on the right I found about 2 years ago and put it aside thinking it was just an oddball worn shell. BUT THEN, I was digging in the same area today and the one on the left appeared. Although a bit worn it is the same as the one I found a few years back. Could it be 2 oddball very worn shells or something else?

    Quick dig before a storm

I don’t know how rare these shells are, but in 3 years of digging this is the only one I’ve ever found. Looking in my reference book it’s either a Talityphis floridanus or Talityphis sarasotaensis. I am a very happy with whatever it is!

    Something from todays dig

Anadara aequalitas has extra ridges on the outer lip. Is that common? Also looks like someone made a permanent home inside. Barnacle I’m assuming.
  6. Navychief

    unusual markings

This shell is very unusual on the exterior. Ridges going vertical and horizontal. Interior has ridges deep inside. Welk family

    Beach Find

I know this is not a tooth. First thing I thought of was mammoth tusk but couldn’t see any cross hatching . Not a great photo of sides. Is it enamel on the outside? Any comments appreciated

    Todays treasures

Dug these this afternoon. First photo Vermetus carolinensis (I believe) and Hindsiclava antealesidota. Second and third photos left Melongena penningtonorum (a guess!) and shell on the right I cannot find one that matches. Third, fourth and fifth I have no clue! Any help will be appreciated.

    Turbo or not

confused, looks like Turbo lindae but the bottom does not look like it fits a Turbo . Is it just the top of a broken shell? All comments appreciated

    ID this bivalve

found this on a dig today. Checked a number of different sights on bivalves but nothing that comes close. Any help is much appreciated!

    Beach Finds ID

My wife found these today on our beach stroll. I assumed the wide flat one was turtle, but when I turned it over it looked like it was hollow. So that eliminated turtle shell for me. The other reminded me of gator on top. All comments appreciated.

    Is this Chicoreus judeae

Went digging for about 15 min behind my commercial building and found this baby! Super size 3 3/4” long 2” wide. Looking in my reference books it looks to me like Chicoreus judeae. But not positive. Any help would be appreciated.

Things dug up over the last week

mix of items found behind my building top: Septastria marylandica, bottom two a little worn. middle: two shells on the bottom have growth curves especially what I believe is Heilprinia carolinensis. last: mix of shells with barnacles. They are happy to grow on any shell!

what animal did it come from

my wife found this while strolling the beach. Not sure what bone it is and from what animal. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    beach finds

found 2 worn Glyptodont scutes about 1/2 mile from each other. Also, a tooth that I assume is horse. If not please let me know. Thanks

    Help with scallop shell

Scallop shell but can’t find one where ribs curve like this. Books I have all seem to have ribs rather straight. Thought about Nodipecten collierensis but again ribs not curved enough. Any help would be much appreciated.

    What do I have?

I believe it’s a tooth. Enamel on two sides. Ends do not look like horse. Any thoughts?

    Barnacles attachments

These barnacles seem to be attracted to Hystrivasum (possibly Olssoni)
  20. Navychief

    Another odd couple

Crucibulum scutellatum with half of a barnacle on top. A handsome couple! Amazing they survived.

    Bivalve ID

I usually don’t keep a lot of bivalves. But this one was different in its overall look. Closest I can find is Mercenaria campechiensis. But I am not convinced. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Whale tooth?

Hey prob got a simple one, thinking it's a sperm whale tooth, but it is not hallow. I found it in in Sarasota FL in mostly a bunch of shell. I seen what looked like whale bone fragments, tiger shark teeth, Hastalis and great white teeth and randomly a rhino tooth, but not in the exact pile. It's 4.41"
  23. Navychief

    Very odd bivalves

These 2 were found behind my building in Tampa. I’m sure they were brought in as land fill. The large one is interesting because the bottom is so flat. The other is a tear drop shape. Couldn’t find either in any of my reference books. Any ideas?

Just a mammal bone or Jaw bone

Thought this was a misc bone but then I noticed 3 “sockets”. And on the interior side it looks like teeth markings. Or maybe I just want to believe it’s a jaw bone! Any help would be appreciated.

    What is it?

Not sure if this is a tooth. If it is , what from?
