Not so much fossil news but fossils related. Quite interesting and I would love to see pond terrapin in the U.K. If the environment was ideal. https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jul/07/european-pond-turtle-could-return-to-british-rivers-and-lakes The Wretham specimens are held by the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge. @Tidgy's Dad

The bones of mammoths, woolly rhinoceros and hyena are among the remains discovered in a cave during the construction of new houses in Sherford, near Plymouth. They date to the middle of the last Ice Age between 60,000 and 30,000 years ago. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/england/devon

Hi, we visited Port Mulgrave last weekend as I did about 10 years ago and was wondering if the protrusions in the bed rock were bones and if anyone can recognise what they are. I got a glimpse of what the inside looked like could it be fossilised marrowbone?

A couple of months ago I was asked by Violet's teacher if I could do a presentation on fossils. In the uk a basic lesson on palaeontology is a part of the school curriculum. I took a range of fossils, both in type and era. Of course anything dinosaur was the most popular, in particular teeth. The kids were really interested and when it came to question time everyone's hands were raised. I was really surprised how much knowledge these 7 and 8 year olds had. Sadly time ran out too soon but I've been asked to return later in the year. I'm REALLY looking forward to going back. A couple of days later I was asked by Mrs Hayes, the teacher, to pop in and see her for 5 minutes. All the kids were there and I was presented with a lovely card, a box of chocolates (most of which Violet ate when we got home!) and a superb fossil they had made me which now resides in my collection. I wasn't allowed to take photographs of the day because of child protection but it was documented by a child with a digital camera. Dear Violet's Dad was written by Violet!

Soooo under the pretence of a holiday in the South West of England I took Dr B and little Violet to Lyme Regis and we, er, stumbled across Lyme Regis Museum which unbeknown to me had some paleontological specimens inside something to do with a certain Mary Anning I believe. Fortunately the museum has other things that Dr B was interested in (actually we all were), as a teacher of creative writing and a novelist, so my bacon was saved when it became apparent that John Fowles was curator there for two years and Jane Austin visited Lyme regularly. The museum is really kid friendly an there are questionnaires for children of all ages to do with a small prize of a polished piece of semi precious stone. Lots of images to follow Pencil in hand Violet is ready to start her questionnaire.

Hi everyone. I'm from Manchester UK, not the USA one . I've been picking up bits and pieces from beaches on holidays for I guess 40 years (since I was ten) but only a little more seriously in the last two. About 50% of my collection is found, the rest bought. I'm slowly cataloging my collection and it is really slow going but a lot of fun. I'm very fortunate in that I live and work less than ten mills from Offerton http://www.ukfossils.co.uk/introductions/offerton.html which is a coal measure with plenty of Carboniferous plants. I'll slowly upload pics to my gallery when I get the time. Cheers John

I did post this a while ago on another forum but it might be useful here. Someone (I have no idea who) has spent time and effort to make this map of uk locations and put it up on Google maps. It's been useful for me. Wouldn't it be cool if the map was expanded worldwide! https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zKkgpgmdqasY.kL_ZtZbMvmag
