    Whitby fossil id

This is another fossil I found on the beach near Whitby a few years ago. I have a couple of ideas but don’t want to appear stupid given all the experts on this forum

  7. A compilation video i've just made showing some of my ammonite finds i've captured on video. These are in an unprepared state, except a tap with a hammer. Quite a selection including dactylioceras, hildoceras, perenoceras, pseudolioceras and a rare Ovaticeras! Found over afew months.
  8. I’m thrilled to share pics of this tiny fish jaw i found! Jaw and teeth are rare enough to find on the yorkshire coast but i’m pretty sure only a small handful of yorkshire collectors have one of these. It’s the species called Saurorhynchus acutus. Thanks to @TqB for the help with IDing this little beauty who is also one of the lucky few to own a specimin.
  9. UPDATE: I politely messaged the seller with the correct ID and have received a very friendly reply thanking me and that there was no intent to deceive. They say they'll change the listing when back from a foreign holiday. UPDATE 2: 3 June 2019 This has now been correctly relisted as a coral - at a much, much lower price (but still a lot more by several times than I'd be prepared to pay if I wanted it, which I don't! - it's a common species). ORIGINAL POST:Described as a dinosaur egg with worm infestation, and with a very high price tag! It's obviously a coral colony, probably Diphyphyllum sp.

    Fossil footprint?

Hi. This is a picture of a stone I found near Whitby several years ago. I have always thought it looks like a footprint but no idea if it is just a coincidence that it looks like this. The sample is well cleaned and the shape is an imprint in the stone. Photos are the best I can do with my phone. Hoping with all the experts on here that someone can help.
  11. My son would love to know what these are. Rocks or something more... I’m not convinced as I don’t think they are anything like the right shape but seeing the amazing knowledge on here about our other finds made us dare to ask.

    ? Fossil please help

Everyone has been really helpful to me in my quest to learn about my finds from the weekend. Could this be fossil too and if so what kind? Many thanks in advance!
  13. I’ve wanted a croc scute for quite a while, reptile especially croc remains are rare on the yorkshire coast so i’m pleased to find one today. I found it wearing out of a slab, it’s a partial but not complaining! Possibly Steneosaurus
  14. Not really sure Nodulised is even a word but I found it formed in a round nodule today, this is my first time cracking open one and finding a vert usually they have some part poking out. It was fresh from the cliff and had no indication on what was inside. A real nice surprise. Quite big and a nice split too. Comparison between a smaller recent vert.
  15. Thought you might all like to see this. I was super pleased to finally find some croc because it’s rare on the Yorkshire Coast. I noticed this worn vertebrae wearing out of a boulder. As found Extracted Chuffed
  16. Today i carried this battlefield back up the cliff. I’ve been looking for a decent fresh one for a while. Unfortunately they are all quite heavy, like this one! I think a bit of pen work and it will reveal even more! anyone know the species?

    Carboniferous arachnid?

I found this in West Yorkshire, UK recently in coal mining waste from the Pennine Lower Coal Measures formation (Westphalian A, upper Carboniferous). On the rock, there are several plant fossils such as Neuropteris leaves, but also this fossil. I am unsure whether this is the abdomen of an arachnid or insect, or just a plant fossil. On one part of the fossil, there is what seems to be a faint imprint of a Neuropteris leaf. However, this imprint seems to be from a different fossil which formed on top of the possible arachnid/insect. Do you think this is indeed an arachnid/insect fossil or just a plant fragment? Thanks, Daniel

    Ichthyosaur humerus?

I found these two rarther worn bones in the same spot afew weeks apart in Yorkshire. I’m thinking broken humerus and any suggestions on the other bone are welcome, guessing some other part of the paddle. Not sure if it looks right for the radius or ulna though. (humerus) bottom bit worn away and top where the other paddle hones go. Other bone of similar quality and condition.

    What is this?

Hi everyone. This is my first request for an ID, I'm a complete newbie with limited knowledge but very eager to learn. This might be nothing, but I thought it was strange. Found loose on a Yorkshire beach (UK) unsure whether it was washed up by the sea or came away in a cliff fall. Area known for ammonites/Mesazoic/Jurassic finds. Measures approx 9cm in length, 18 cm circumference.

    Plant Fossil

I found this nice plant fossil at the base of the cliff last year. I think it's my best plant so far I'm sure my usual pen would be way too strong and easily damage this delicate fossil. I think removing some of the rock at the right hand side of the fern could make it look better. I'm tempted to try and just split it off but i know it could damage fern. What are your thoughts?
  21. After so many people showing an Interest in the Golden Cannonball Nodule, I though I’d start a thread to document my Yorkshire finds and prep, be they ammonites, bone, or what ever else. Hope you all enjoy

    ID from Yorkshire coast

Found this fragment from Whitby area, at first I thought it was a flattened belamnite but wonder if it's in fact a tooth. Any ideas?

    Current Prep Thread

So, what do we all havecurrently on the prep table? Be interesting to see what challenges await everybody. My current piece is this bone block, most likely ichthyosaur rib. A few scattered ammonites from the genus Dactylioceras sp. if expecting to probably found more bone further in all being well, probably a vert or two and some more ribs.

    Dremel

Hey all, quick prep question. I’m looking at buying this dremel set with these accessories. I want it for smoothing (removing pen marks) polishing and sharpening the tip of my TT. Would i need to buy anything else to do this or is everything in this set? This is for hard Yorkshire Coast material Thanks
