Anybody know any spots in North Carolina to fossil hunt? If no one is willing to share their secrets can you at least tell me what to look for?

There are many places to hunt in NC that have excellent exposures.   I'd suggest you check out the North Carolina Fossil Club, an excellent resource with friendly, helpful folks.  The site will also have books for sale and other links to check out.

buy the book "Fossil Collecting in North Carolina" from the NC Geological survey. Some sites no longer available but a wealth of information.

Also look through the topic "Fossil Locations" in this forum. Scroll down to North Carolina and have a look see at the threads, you might find a couple of places at or near by where you will be.

Green Mill Run in Greenville NC is a good spot, and so are the spoil piles in outside the Aurora Fossil Museum.

This really depends on where you are going to be in N.C. If you will be in the western part of the state, no fossils without a long drive. So letting us know where you will be visiting will be a big help. North Carolina is a pretty big state.
