Fossil hunting in my gravel pathway

Recommended Posts

My daughter and I have been hunting on our gravel path in lockdown, and have found one with almost hair like filaments running the length of it. Any chance if an ID?20200509_123314.thumb.jpg.ce47685b27b06ef65e965ae612890216.jpg

Views of the opposite sides, looking straight down on the objects might be helpful.

Also, try using a piece of white paper instead of a mirrored glass background.

Please include a ruler or tape measure for scale.

Cropped and brightened:

Do these  help at all? It's particularly that one you've zoomed in on which seems interesting. I mainly included the other to show some of the other fossils found nearby, all tends to be aquatic, so hoped that might help in am ID for the more interesting one.

I guess by 'the more interesting one' you mean the rhynchonellid brachiopod at the top of the picture?

The one to the right is a colonial coral and the third one I don't know, but possibly a sponge?

Hah, I actually meant the one on the right, that fossildude had zoomed in on.

Thank you for the ID on it being a colonial coral. Will give me something to look into and keep the daughter entertained looking for more!

Sounds right. The coral is a tabulate.

I've been working some imported crushed rock for small wonders like this lately myself. :)

Just realised, right in one pic is different from right in others! The one fossildude zoomed in on you thought may be a sponge is the one I hoped for an ID on.
