Hi Claire. 

Unfortunately, your camera focused on your table. Opposed to your specimen. Any chance of getting a in focus picture?  You have a interesting looking piece there. I’m sure someone can help you out with better pics. :)

Very confusing!  There is no way it is the same object in the 2 photos.  The second is certainly a concretion, and it is likely the first is as well (but a different concretion).  Sometimes these form with a fossil at the center, but usually whatever nucleated the concretion to form is not apparent.  The "seam" around the first one suggests it may split open fairly easily with a (gentle) tap or two with a hammer.  The second I would leave as is personally.
