3Monkeys
Hello, I found this some time ago at Fossil Beach in Virginia. Can anyone help me identify what bone this is and what animal it may belong to? Thank you! 3 Monkeys Mama Edited June 29, 2020 by 3Monkeys
Rockwood
You haven't actually found the fossil yet. This is a concretion. There is a good chance there is a fossil inside it though. Wait for advice from folks with more experience on how to proceed.
cck
That’s a very typical concretion from that location.
Rockwood
But can a fossil be extracted ? Anything better than smack it with a hammer ?

It looks porous enough to consider freeze/thaw a possibility. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
