jason 1
Hello, I’m new to this forum but have enjoyed fossil collecting for quite some time. Just today my son and I went to Calvert Cliffs. While I didn’t do well with teeth, we found this which I was unable to identify. I was hoping someone might be able to give me an idea of what this might be. Thanks in advance for your time! Miocene_Mason
Welcome to the forum fellow Marylander! This is a piece of fossil bone (some prefer “Chunkosaurus”), likely from a cetacean (whale, dolphin, or porpoise). It doesn’t have many identifying features, but looks as though it may be part of a vertebra. 2 “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
