I'm wondering if it's a fossilized burrow or some form of ichnofossil. Notice the depression from the opposite side of the burrow-like projection. Dakota Sandstone formation and Cenomanian in age.

If the first image shows the piece the correct way up then burrow is most likely.

I don't know which is up and which is down. I found it among the rubbles.

It appears to be truncated in some way, at some time. Otherwise I agree it looks like the opening of a burrow.
