I was out yesterday doing a final hunt before the snow sets in here in Montana on the Judith River formation and found this claw along with this vertebra, no other bones around so possibly from the same animal. I have found theropod claws that are much smaller and this one is huge when compared.  I searched for the tip but sadly couldn't find it. I assume because of the size it would be a tyrannosauroid but not certain. Can it be determined to be a toe claw or hand claw? Is the vertebra identifiable? @patrickhudson

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Tyrannosaur Claw and Vertebra

Looks like a Tyrannosaurid foot claw here is one you can compare against.  This one is from the  Two Med should be fairly similar to JR.

Oblique angle photos are hard to ID best are straight in shots.

Can you take straight in photo of one of the ends of the vert..  Could be hadrosaur

The vert looks like a caudal from either a ceratopsian or a duckbill.

Thanks Troodon. Appreciate the help. Sandra at Whiteriver Prep said they could take my tyrannosaur teeth next week. Would it be a bad idea to get the claw restored as well or is it better to leave it as is?

Sandy would do a nice job with it, just tell her not to bump my stuff  :D.  Its your call on how you feel about it since everyone has a different opinion.   With claws like this one I support adding a tip, hey it could always be removed.  It would give someone a view of what a completeone looks like.  The other decision some make is not to paint the restored end so you can see the resto.   Your call its a  personal decision.

Great, she said back in September they were backed up for a few months, I guess that is because of you. I'm going to start paying extra to get at the front of the line:heartylaugh:

The primary name on that photo is Tyrannosaurid indet.    I showed Daspleto because its someone at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center indicated it was one but I have not tried to confirm that.  Left out ? on description
