ID for Egg shaped item?

Hi all, this comes from south america, a friend claims this is an egg but I am not so sure about it.

What do you think?

Not an egg. 

Looks like agate or chert, to me.

Agreed. (Yay there's a thumb for that now)The would be shell, appears to me a much thicker and more durable material than would be expected to be seen on an egg this size.

Mineral, unfortunately. Fossil eggs are incredibly rare.

Fun specimen to add to the pseudofossil file.

 

I have a similar sized hunk of granite I use to mess with undergrads all the time.

 

<places chicken egg and granite cobble on bench>
”which is a dinosaur egg?”

 

they always pick the granite.
