Odd Vertebra from Post Oak Creek TX

Recommended Posts

JamieLynn

Hi all! Found this odd little vertebra in my Post Oak Creek micro matrix. I assume it's fish, but the small end and the big end have me a bit confused. I am not too knowledgeable in vertebrate material so any help will be appreciated.  Thanks!

It is 8mm x 5mm

It looks fishy to me. It's possible the smaller "end" is just broken.

Concur with al dente on both counts. It doesn’t look like any that I’m familiar with

Weird, but definitely a fish. Maybe the difference between the posterior and anterior ends is due to this being the first cervical vertebra?

Interesting, and confusing, considering @Al Dente has not posted in this thread.

GeschWhat

Fish vertebra with beginning signs of hyperostosis? Out of my realm - just an impression. :)
