I bought this cut and highly polished 4.3cm Ichthyosaur Vertebrae.

Can anyone confirm that this is really an Ichthy, i'd like to be sure.

 

It was found at kettleness north yorkshire as an erratic nodule.

I know that some folks would hate that being polished, but I think its purty dang neat!

Yes it it. You can tell from the shape and the fact the dimple can be visibly seen.

 

The bit of bone could be a part of a process.

It is Ichthyosaur and was probably polished because it couldn't be prepped in a more traditional way, maybe a fault on the surface, but it turned out very decorative. Nice piece

Yeah, probably pretty well damaged I'd say so that was why it was made into a decorative piece.

Most likely a piece of rib as it is section of a separate bone.
