Appears to be mineral deposits of some sort, however the spiral shape of the mineral makes it look fossily. 

 

Matrix is 4"x4"x6", very dense, hardness around 5. 

Found in a river near Grand Cache, Alberta.

 

Any ideas?

Spirals, or concentric circles ?

I agree with fragments and sectioned views of thick walled bivalves or brachiopods.
