Shellseeker
Out yesterday, gorgeous day, good friends, mostly small shark teeth but a few keepers. That deer tine is one of my best at 2.75 inches, and the beaver molar, hard to find in this condition, is sweet!!!! But this tread is about a Carnassial or maybe it is a p4. Luckily, I hunt with a quarter inch screen. What animal family is this? It does not look like bigger canids I have. For that matter, it does not look like my felid carnassials. At first , I thought peccary molar, then tapir pre_molar, .... 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

SailingAlongToo
@Shellseeker FL Jack, The flat specimen between the barracuda teeth and ear bone looks like a really nice sturgeon scute/scale (in the top left corner of your 1st photo.) Harry Pristis
The tooth looks to me like a mustelid . . . perhaps from an otter. Just a guess. 2 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Thanks Harry, I hoped you would see and respond. You have a sense of what is possible and also what are the the few possibilities based on size. I could not have received a better "guess" !!! Cheers, VA Jack Jack , I would LOVE to find out this is a Sturgeon scute...but it seems to thick. The fossil is unusual, I have a box of unusual fossils like this looking for duplicates and variations.
