Found in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, USA. I found along a shallow stream bed that cuts deeply through a rocky gorge. Nearby is a large fossilized tree branch and I have found other Fossil there as well. The material is sandstone and I noticed it's starting to deteriorate. The size of the overall specimen is 152 mm in length.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

I agree with Rockwood - lepidodendron branch.

I would suggest stigmaria, ie root instead of branch, due to the lack of rhomboid leaf scars.

Were that the case they would be seen as circular bumps.

No, not necessarily.

Are you arguing that rootlets were substantial enough in substance that stubs of them could form these impressions in sand ?

They look distinctly rhomboid to me by the way.

I would like to see an image of the fossil looking directly down on it, rather than oblique angles.

Not arguing :). You are probably correct but I thought I would offer another possibility. Depending on preservation they can look similar.

Understood.

Sounds almost like something I would do.

No. Just too much coffee and seasonal heebeejeebees from being stuck in the snow.

I do! I'm sick of Cali weather. I want to live somewhere it snows & rains & gets cold! Someday, perhaps, God willing & the river don't rise!

Right time, right place, right amount.

Don't end up learning the hard way. It's not fun.

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

This is definitely an impression of the bark of the trunk or a branch from this picture. Nice find!
