Godrel Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Found this interesting fossil in Covington Country, Alabama in a creek. The material around the fossils seem to be very brittle and the fossil itself looks to me like it might be related to sand dollars, but I don't know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Darktooth Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Looks to me like shell pieces. I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.
FossilDAWG Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 These fossils are a large species of foraminiferan. Don
Ludwigia Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I agree with Don. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
ClearLake Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I believe @FossilDAWG and @Ludwigia are correct. These look very similar to some large forams (Lepidocyclina supera, but there are numerous species) that I have collected out of the Oligocene just to the west in Mississippi. They were very abundant at that location. These are very interesting fossils given that foraminifera are usually very small (microscopic).
Godrel Posted December 22, 2019 Author Posted December 22, 2019 Thank you all very much for you help.
ClearLake Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 I also forgot to add, welcome to the forum! It looks like you found a great place to find some fossils. There are often some great looking shells found in those rocks. Let us know what else you have found!
