grandpa Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 "On the road again!" Hi JamieLynn, I have never hunted the Midland area, but I found these sites that may help introduce you to the area. Hopefully others familiar with the area may respond to more specific sites. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/when-texas-was-bottom-sea-180953653/ http://www.midlandgemandmineral.org/ https://www.mrt.com/news/article/TALKIN-TEXAS-Thousands-of-fossils-found-on-7481527.php I also know that there was a major meteorite impact in the Midland-Odessa area. Do an internet search for that if interested in meteorites. Further, I know that the Monahans Sand Dunes State Park in the general area, and that is known for Indian artifacts. You may want to also google that. Beyond that, you might also want to google Odessa and Snyder Tx fossils. They seem close enough for a short trip. Have a good time, and if you find some good sites, show us pictures of the results. Tom
JamieLynn Posted December 24, 2019 Author Posted December 24, 2019 Thanks Tom! I have been out to the meteorite impact crater.....it is a sight to behold. Not QUITE as dramatic as the one in Arizona, but a great stop nonetheless. You can see where the rock had been deformed by the impact. And a nice little visitors center. I will take a look at those links. I figure if I have to go to Midland, hopefully I can go find a few fossils! 1 www.fossil-quest.com
