Kolya Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Hello! Help with ID, please. Toot is worn but has interesting (big) root. Ukraine, Lviv region. Thanks in advance!
Andy B Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I'm a complete amateur but since nobody has posted. It looks like it is a deceiving tooth. It seems to be cleaved through the center of the root and down through the blade, leaving only a damaged half of a tooth (or less). Maybe a flat view would help identify the shape better. Like the bottom left picture if you rotated the clay backward 90 degrees so you are looking down on what might be the face of the tooth. Just an idea though. It will take someone with much much more experience than me to tell you what it is. Sorry.
Shellseeker Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Well, a shark tooth with a robust root and a cusp. What is the size of your fragment and any location info on where it was found? One possibility is Carcharias .sp. The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

Searcher78 Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 It is just half a tooth, so you would have to picture the other half looking the same.
sixgill pete Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 It is not even half the tooth. It is the broken corner from one side. Most likely a sand tiger, Carcharias sp. if it is from an Oligocene, Miocene or Pliocene location.
