New Members Recently Acquired Posted January 31, 2020 New Members Posted January 31, 2020 This "prehistoric clam" was given to my step-daughter with simple verbage that was inappropriate for her class to learn from! If anyone could please identify so that we can gather further research it would be most appreciated! From my own research I have found that: *Brachiopod- shelled fossil *Mercenaria- Clam Taxa-Species name? Lepidocyclus? It was found near Ceasers Creek in Southwestern Ohio. Map reference to Orgenia, Ohio The fellow that passed it along claimed that he could 'hear' a liquid like sound from inside of the shell if he shook it near his ear?! He also demonstrated a 'knocking' on the center top which also gave proof to his 'liquid-filled' claim. I have 'Google Lens' and another photo, of not the same thing but similar, brought me here! Please! Please Help! Thank you for your time in advance!!!
Shamalama Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Hard to see what that might be from the photo you provided. Can you upload a few more from different angles please? Right now it looks like a concretion to me, not a fossil. 1 -Dave __________________________________________________ Geologists on the whole are inconsistent drivers. Tidgy's Dad Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 How big is it, please? I'm pretty sure that's much to big to be Lepidocyclus, some of which are sitting right by me as I speak. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
caldigger Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 I agree. Not seeing a shelled fossil here other than a vague general shape. 1
Coco Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 It reminds me of the water agates that could be found in fairs about 20 years ago. In the middle there was a geode (quartz) and water was trapped in the hole. But the shape and color of your find don’t ring a bell.
