A Canine or Tusk

One of the enjoyable things of this hobby is friends sending me photos of their finds. Usually I try to post my own fossils,  because I have them in hand and take additional photos and measure, etc etc.

This one arrived today, a land find from a pit in Bone Valley.. I asked for additional photos and measurements,  but felt I could show you the photo I have and request input.

To me, it looks to be 3-4 inches and has some distinctive markings.  I have a guess, but will wait on yours..  Jack

It looks like a peccary tusk, Jack . . . Catagonus, maybe.

Could be exciting.  If I could confirm that it comes from a pit,  20-25 feet down,   that might raise the potential of a Miocene or Pliocene species.

I have only a few Peccary tusks and they look different.. I am noting the logitudinal groove in the enamel and wonder if it is dintinctive to a species..

Here is one from the phosphate mines, which must be Miocene....

Here is another from @PrehistoricFlorida, once again different
