Hi everyone. Had an unscheduled look at a location today that I was driving by, due to the small tide window for access being perfect.

Unfortunately I had none of my gear on me due to being on another mission. I did however have a screwdriver in the car that measures 26cm's (just over 10 inches) that I used for a make shift scale. I didn't take the rock with me as it weighs approximately 50kg's (110lbs). I am unsure if it is plant or bone, or something else, which will derermine whether or not I go back to collect it.

The area is late Miocene, approximately 9 million years, mostly deepwater sandstone.20240603_132904.thumb.jpg.e83a8278765fb321ba4d506525b886ce.jpg20240603_132935.thumb.jpg.c3b66a3b7aa82d4d102f6ec81f8d927f.jpg20240603_132954.thumb.jpg.c646842b40fe91fc8c5849dd81e9ad7e.jpg20240603_132757.thumb.jpg.28cc57d2e774c644ccf16a4402dc1053.jpg20240603_132823.thumb.jpg.c9421b30a4490818471fc2b6996cc808.jpg20240603_134252.thumb.jpg.e03c306b7b4ec6a4e1127fadae969f6e.jpg

I'm seeing a piece of lignite here: wood.

To my relatively untrained eye, it looks like something that was poured into that channel in the rock. It probably isn't, but it sure has the look. Good luck on ID.
