New Members Bennett-s Posted June 4 New Members Share Posted June 4 I found these on a trip last weekend to the Kalkberg Formation in New York. I grabbed a whole bunch of fossils and have not IDd them all yet, but these two stuck out as mysteries. To describe the first unknown fossil, it is similar in shape to half of a sphere. The photos include a scale. I thought it might be some fossil that is encrusted with a bryozoan. This next fossil is fairly smooth.
Rockwood
The first one looks like a brachiopod that's heavily encrusted by bryozoans. I think the second one may need further exploration.
Fossildude19
The second item could be a partial crinoid holdfast. The only large brachiopod that I am aware of from there is Macropleura macropleura. So that could be the brachiopod covered with the bryozoan. @Jeffrey P Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
