New Members whhubbard35 Posted June 5 New Members Posted June 5 I can't figure out what type of fossil this is, if in fact it is a fossil, which I believe it is. Although I have no clue about anything else. I am just going on my gut telling me it is in fact a fossil. If anyone could shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated. It's a great conversation piece, and I don't plan on getting rid of it, or anything like that. I simply watn to learn all I can about whatever it is. Thanks. Found in Southeastern Kentucky, USA. westcoast Posted June 5 Posted June 5 This looks like a trace fossil, the infill of a burrow. Although it is not quite the same, search for Conostichus for comparison. 1 2
Coco Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Your photos are faded (lack of contrast) and we do not have the size in cm or inches, it does not facilitate identification. For my part I do not distinguish anything fossil. Ah, and for your personal information, we do not write in capital letters (and bold for no reason) on a forum because it means that we are angry and that we shout Coco ---------------------- OUTIL POUR MESURER VOS FOSSILES : ici Paréidolie : here Ma bibliothèque PDF 1 (Poissons et sélaciens récents & fossiles) : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 2 (Animaux vivants - sans poissons ni sélaciens) : ici Mâchoires sélaciennes récentes : ici Hétérodontiques et sélaciens : ici Oeufs sélaciens récents : ici Otolithes de poissons récents ! ici Un Greg...
Ludwigia Posted June 5 Posted June 5 I'll go along with westcoast in saying that this is some kind of burrow trace fossil in sandstone. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
New Members whhubbard35 Posted June 5 Author New Members Posted June 5 My bad on the caps. Wasn't my intent lol. First time I've ever posted on a forum period. I was just trying to get someone to notice my post lol. Thanks for the input and I'll definitely be reading up on the Conostichus thing. Its cool if it isn't a fossil - my first thought to be honest was a fossilized root or something. That's a complete guess though. lol Maybe wishful thinking. I'll try to take a better picture tho with centimeters on a ruler so u can tell how big it is and I don't know how I could take one with more contrast, so any suggestions there and I'll definitely oblige. Thank you for you time.
Fin Lover Posted June 5 Posted June 5 If you are taking pictures with your phone, you can edit them in Google Photos or whatever app is on your phone. I don't think this helps much, but here is an edited one: Fin Lover
Fossildude19 Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Definitely a trace fossil. I would lean more towards something like Asterosoma, however.
