New Members Papa Rick Posted June 9 New Members Posted June 9 I found this in Western Kentucky in Lyon County and it was ID'd as petrified wood. Comments 1
Fossildude19 Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Welcome to the Forum. Can we see the broken edges? To be classified as "Petrified wood" , minerals need to replace all of the cells in the wood, retaining the structure of wood, and growth rings should show. This looks like carbonized/coalified plant material, to me, from the pictures provided. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
