Newbie_1971 Posted June 12 Posted June 12 Is this fossilized wood? Including a photo of an isotelus bed .... partial. Going to go back tomorrow to look for the other part!
ynot Posted June 13 Posted June 13 The first piece could be wood, but need some good close up pictures to be sure. 2
Rockwood Posted June 13 Posted June 13 It might be helpful if you could expand a bit on the wood/trilobite connection as well. It's not unheard of, but somewhat unusual to see wood in context with the other fossils pictured.
Yoda Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Not sure about the first item. But the rest look like sea bed hash plates. MotM August 2023 - Eclectic Collector
Newbie_1971 Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 It is wood isn't it? I just took more photos, and it is porous. 1
Rockwood Posted June 14 Posted June 14 (edited) Yep. Hardwood (angiosperm). But that separates it from trilobites for sure. Edited June 14 by Rockwood 1

Newbie_1971 Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 I just don't understand how it happened ... but I found it alongside trilobite parts.

Newbie_1971 Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 As a float? I am guessing you mean that it may had ended up there on accident ... I am guessing yes ...
diggumdave Posted June 14 Posted June 14 is there a river involved? with erosion, stuff ends up where it doesn’t seem to belong. i found an ammonite in my pet wood area once… 1 1 …but i’ve been wrong before.

Rockwood Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Was it near a road? Or at the bottom of a hill. It sure looks like wood that doesn't really get going until mid-Cretaceous.
Newbie_1971 Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 Both of what you said. But I am pretty sure it is a trilobite bed. I find them for the bottom up.

Brandy Cole Posted June 15 Posted June 15 If this is a current or former creek or waterway, it's possible that it's washed down from another geologic region. 1
Kane Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Or it fell out of someone else's collecting bucket. It has been known to happen. Unless it was truly found in situ in the rock, the connection to the existing strata is a correlation at best. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
