Is this fossilized wood? Including a photo of an isotelus bed .... partial. Going to go back tomorrow to look for the other part!

The first piece could be wood, but need some good close up pictures to be sure.

It might be helpful if you could expand a bit on the wood/trilobite connection as well.

It's not unheard of, but somewhat unusual to see wood in context with the other fossils pictured.

Not sure about the first item.

But the rest look like sea bed hash plates.

It is wood isn't it? I  just took more photos, and it is porous.

Yep. Hardwood (angiosperm). But that separates it from trilobites for sure.

But should I find it at about the same level as trilobites? That is what has me stirred a bit! Thank you

No. That's the separation I refer to.

I just don't understand how it happened ... but I  found it alongside trilobite parts.

In situ or as float?

As a float? I am guessing you mean that it may had ended up there on accident ... I  am guessing yes ...

No wood in the Ordovician.

That is what I  thought ... so what could it be?!

No there is no river involved.  That is why I  am super confused.

Was it near a road? Or at the bottom of a hill. It sure looks like wood that doesn't really get going until mid-Cretaceous.

Both of what you said. But I  am pretty sure it is a trilobite bed. I  find them for the bottom up.

I suspect there may be some heavy equipment involved here.

No, not at all. That is why I  am so confused.

That's why I was so shocked in finding it there.

If this is a current or former creek or waterway, it's possible that it's washed down from another geologic region.

That's what I'm saying

Or it fell out of someone else's collecting bucket. It has been known to happen. Unless it was truly found in situ in the rock, the connection to the existing strata is a correlation at best.
