New Members M. Jay Posted August 3 New Members Share Posted August 3 Hello, I have been trying to identify what exactly this fossil is for some time now. I found it at Calvert Cliffs in Maryland. It was dug out of the cliff side.. and I have been unable to find anything on their website as to what it could be. My best guess would be a jawbone of some kind. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Rockwood
This looks like ironstone. There is a small chance that it could be a burrow or wood cast. Ironstone comes in a lot of odd shapes that are not fossils though.

New Members M. Jay Posted August 3 Author New Members Share Posted August 3 It was found with a trowel at the bottom of the cliff. There was a group of people digging around that area so I decided to give it a try.
Rockwood
Book 'em. Well, it's probably not the sort of thing that should be encouraged.
New Members M. Jay Posted August 3 Author New Members Share Posted August 3 Ah ok! I was not aware at the time. I will definitely keep my eye out next time!
Rockwood
Sifting loose material or scanning the surface is fine. Often people scan the surf line for shark teeth because you get a new shuffle with each wave. You have to grab it before the next wave though.
