I was going through a box of Green River Shale I collected years ago and I found several of these fossils.  Can anyone help with the ID?

Very neat find.

I was wondering if it might also be one of the winged fruits that has been named/or maybe one that hasnt been identified yet from that formation?

The location was Douglas Pass, Colorado.

Here is another one.

I wonder if it couldn't be the top part of this one.

Very nice!

Are the 1st and 2nd photos actually different halves/parts of the same fossil? splits/part/counterpart? They appear to be as I try to align other similar spots/circular stains on the matrix. Looking around for some examples in some literature..

Yes, they are the same fossil.  I didn't realize that, but I haven't had them out in years.  Good eye!

Cool!

So I ran you photos past Dr. Steven Manchester up at UF who graciously took a look. (He has published a great deal on the Green River Fm. and similar aged plant material.)  He's thinking the first seems to be a flower of the bean family with a developing pod poking out. He wasnt sure about the other one.

Thanks for showing us the finds...I always like learning something new! I may quickly forget it tomorrow as the brain aint working like it should anymore

but the thrill of seeing something unknown and wondering with the same curiosity you and others have and trying to figure out if there is an answer still gets me going.

Neat finds!
