Recommended Posts

we got an unusual claw from a huge Ptero or medium-size raptor

As the literature does not really exist about the claws of most of the moroccean raptors and hugher pteros, might be someone has a good idea. Where it belongs to or about Literature I do not have or know.

Lenght is approx 6 cm, what is around 2.5´´

Cenomanian, should be Aufous, KemKem-beds, Morocco

thanks!

Quite the head scratcher indeed. Compared to Hell Creek and other North American dromaeosaur claw material I've seen online or in museums, this does not seem to match in terms of curvature and the shape of the articulating end.

Take for example, a Judith River claw from @troodon:

The claw above is far from the only one from a raptor in his collection, I'd compare it with those.

As for the claw of a large pterosaur, I have no idea. I've certainly tried to look around online for any material to reference for some of these more anomalous Kem Kem claws, and can never find anything that gives me any satisfactory identification.

thanks, @PaleoNoel, for the input. Looks like we need more complete skeletons published..., or first we have to find some.

Lot of unknown material on the market from KemKem. I will write "Theropod-claw" on the label...
