New Members Jenjo421 Posted September 1 New Members Share Posted September 1 (edited) I’m a newbie to this, but am already hooked. These are some of my finds from tonight’s creek trip. My question is how do I know if this is a sweet spot for Megalodon teeth? I’m determined to find one, I’ve been searching in a creek near Summerville, SC. This is only my third trip and am in need of some tips, searching advice, and an answer to my main question. Based off my finds is it possible to find a Megalodon tooth in this location? Fin Lover
Most creeks in Summerville have multiple formations. Oligocene formations (Ashley and Chandler Bridge Formations) are common. Unreworked Miocene-Pliocene formations are not common, so most megs are going to be reworked and in the Pleistocene lag deposits. So, to determine whether you can find a meg there, you'll have to learn to ID the formations or find other teeth there that are Miocene-Pliocene. Fin Lover
If you want to send me a PM with the creek name, I'll let you know if I'm aware of megs there, or any tips I have for that creek. Edited September 1 by Fin Lover Fin Lover

I don't think that newbies are allowed to send PMs until they reach a certain amount of posts. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. I don't believe that is true. They should be able to PM someone. 1 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." You have already found Megs. Usually if you find broken teeth, there are perfect ones some where close. Fin Lover
@Shellseeker, is the gray one in the middle not an angustidens? I see cusps. The others are indeterminate since the cusp area is missing. Angustidens are very common here. 1 Fin Lover

Possibly, but I think I would dig some more at this location to see if the only large teeth available are Angustidens. I once had a hunting companion who was so fixated on Megs that he walked away from a highly productive spot for Makos and GWs. To each their own. Fin Lover
No digging allowed in Summerville, but I think she can find some megs at her location...just less likely than angustidens. Fin Lover
