And one more field trip before winter sets in.

I posted a report recently about my walk over some southern German fields with my friend over a week ago. There were a couple of fields that hadn't been plowed up yet which usually yield a few things when they are, so I decided to go back today to have a peek. And sure enough, both of the ones I had in my visor had just been freshly plowed. I spent about 2 hours apiece on each of them, crisscrossing and buckling down to the ground where necessary, so my back had a hard workout today. This time I did think to take along my camera, so I can show a few pics. First of all, a couple of views of the picturesque area.

Those aren't birdies over the hill, but rather sky gliders enjoying the upwinds.

As you can see, there are quite a few plowed fields, but actually most of them don't have much to offer. And this is only one of many areas which we cover. We've just had to check them all out over the years in order to find the few that do contain some treasures. Even once you start walking over these, you find a lot more broken bits than completely preserved ones, but that's quite normal. Here are a few examples of many from today's excursion.

Really too bad on that last one. Just under the surface was a row of stones in one horizon, so I levered a few out. One of them had a smaller ammonite on it which I managed to remove, although it was strongly attached to the matrix.

There weren't quite as many good ones as I'd been hoping this time around, but they are quite ok. Here they are.

And here they are after a scrub in the sink. Now they'll be boxed and shall have to wait until I can get to my friend's workshop.  By the way, I had to post first somewhat earlier than planned, since everything suddenly started getting underlined and I needed to edit.
