New Members SillySanLang Posted October 7 New Members Share Posted October 7 Allegedly only seven pieces have been found, but I found a piece of petrified wood that had amber running down the top of it; and around it are scattered drops of it. I know it’s amber, but how rare is this?
val horn
Amber is rare in places and common in others.
Rockwood
I'm not convinced this is wood or amber. The "only seven pieces found" statement sounds like nonsense to me.
Ludwigia
Canada is a pretty big place. "only seven pieces found"...where? A more precise location and stratigraphy if known might help. Did you find this yourself? Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Fossildude19
Cropped and contrasted: How do you "Know" this is amber? Have you performed tests to determine that it is amber? Carl
If it is petrified wood, and that will remain in doubt without very sharp closeups, then there is almost no chance that is amber because amber preserves under very different conditions than those that create petrified wood. It is way more likely to be a vein of some sort of silica mineral.
