Fossil or weirdest rock ever?

Rocksinsk

Recommended Posts

So, I found this thing in the wall of a gravel ridge. I live in SK Canada.  The lines and the dark area is slightly raised from the rock itself, not sure if it’s due to weird weathering or something else.

Thanks, I’m not sure it’s banded chert but it’s definitely weird. Maybe some kind of ground mineral staining or something. 🤷🏻‍♀️ thank you for the help ✌🏼🙂

There's some fine, regular lamination going on in the pale patch on the left which looks fossil - maybe stromatoporoid? Most of it looks geological but those dark structures are enigmatic - possibly beekite??

I think this is an odd sectioning of overlapping layered concretion.

I wonder if this a jasper. See Bruneau Jasper and Morrisonite that both have a similar pattern.

Very interesting! There are so many jaspers, I’m beginning to think that when in doubt, jasper. It’s pretty interesting though. Thanks for the research material.✌🏼
