Gordon Johnston Posted November 1 Posted November 1 It says Pic du Vessous on the side, a trail in Herault. Any help greatly appreciated thanks!
rocket Posted November 1 Posted November 1 nice one, do not think it is Herault, shape and sutur reminds me more to an alpine triassic ammonite but..., thats only an idea, do not really have a better one...
Ludwigia Posted November 2 Posted November 2 You need to correct the spelling to Pic de Vissou, then you could surf for information. The geology there is paleozoic, so that could also indicate goniatite for your fossil. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
marguy Posted November 2 Posted November 2 your sample resembles the 'griotte limestone' from the Famennian exploited at the Vissou peak; below, extract from the notice of the geological map of this place: "The rich faunas of Goniatites and Clymenias (Cheiloceras planilobus, Sporadoceras munsteri, Platyclymenia annulata, Laevigites laevigatus, Cyrtoclymenia angustiseptata) demonstrated that all areas were represented"
marguy Posted November 2 Posted November 2 for 'calcaire griotte', you can see (another site in Herault) : https://planet-terre.ens-lyon.fr/ressource/Img645-2019-06-17.xml (fig 4,7,17,22) also available in pdf https://planet-terre.ens-lyon.fr/pdf/Img645-2019-06-17.pdf 1
