I found this in late cretaceous flint, wiltshire, UK.

Struggling to think what could have made these layers, and it's shaped a bit like a sponge?

Its not layered on the inside as well.

Each layer is about 1mm thick.

Hi did you find this a field?

 

It has the appearance of a flint burnt, when stubble used be burnt by the farmer...just a thought..

Yes, in fact the current owner used to burn EVERYTHING.
