New Members chaireelee Posted November 10, 2024 New Members Posted November 10, 2024 I found this rock alongside the whitewater river....on the banks in Ohio. It looks like a paw print of some sort to me ..but I'm not sure. How can I tell if it's an imprint or just natural erosion spots?
New Members chaireelee Posted November 10, 2024 Author New Members Posted November 10, 2024 I forgot to send measurements.. .total tip of toe like spot to bottom of pad spot is 2 3/4" total.. pad is 1 3/4" long by 1 3/8" wide
Ludwigia Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 I sorta doubt it, but you would need to research the geological history of the area where you found this in order to find out if there has been any evidence of such finds in the past. The thing is, if you found this on a river bank as you have stated, it could have been transported over hundreds of miles over the years. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Fossildude19 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Not a fossil paw print. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." doushantuo Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Hi, and welcome. As Tim has said, probably not a vertebrate trace fossil( manus-or pes imprint) Slight indentations or hollowed out regions in geological material are poor determinants of identity. 1
