I found this rock alongside the whitewater river....on the banks  in Ohio.  It looks like a paw print of some sort to me ..but I'm not sure. How can I tell if it's an imprint or just natural erosion spots?

I sorta doubt it, but you would need to research the geological history of the area where you found this in order to find out if there has been any evidence of such finds in the past. The thing is, if you found this on a river bank as you have stated, it could have been transported over hundreds of miles over the years.

Not a fossil paw print.

Hi, and welcome.

As Tim has said, probably not a vertebrate trace fossil( manus-or pes  imprint)

Slight indentations or hollowed out regions in geological material are poor determinants of identity.
