Agateyes Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Good evening all, I am looking for help identifying a dinosaur fossil bone specimen. I don’t have any locale information, unfortunately. The fossil weighs 1070 grams and measures 6 1/4L x 4 1/2W x 4 1/4”H +/-. The fossil has some secondary coral fossil imprints on the outside but it’s not coral. I appreciate your time and consideration in advance, Mike
Fin Lover Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I'm not seeing anything to indicate bone. Why do you believe it's a dinosaur fossil? 1 Fin Lover
Fossildude19 Posted November 11 Posted November 11 Does not look like any kind of bone I am aware of. No bone textures, or morphology. I see clionid sponge or wrinkled rock borer markings on it. Obviously been in the water at some point. Lack of location makes things difficult to identify, but this looks like a rock, to me. 3 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Agateyes Posted November 11 Author Posted November 11 Thank you Fin Lover and Fossildude19 for your replies. I think my color was slightly off in the pictures and maybe I didn’t have the best angles, I will add a few additional pictures. I’m not sure if it’s a fossil in a host or not, it could be geological as well but it does look like bone with a loop 🤷🏼♂️
Ludwigia Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I agree with the others. This is not a bone. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

It's texture, it's shape, and bilateral symmetry, or lack thereof, that determine what is a fossil bone. This just is not a fossil bone of any kind.
