Hi all,

Last week a friend and me found some teeth digging in a pile of mixed Neogene and Paleogene sand.

We found some teeth, but one of them caught our attention.

I think it is a baby megalodon tooth, but im not sure. Looks like there a bourlette, but weathered down.

Any thoughts what this could be? Thanks!

It's from somewhere on the Megalodon lineage, but I'm not sure about Megalodon itself. The presence of small cusps makes me think Angustidens or Chubutensis. That corner is kinda odd though, almost looks like there's multiple cusps on one side which could be a pathology.

Nice find!

I think it is a Meg with cusps.. Do this search on the Internet and make up your own mind.

It was found in Antwerp, Belgium. In dreged sands of the Scheldt river. The sands were pretty dark grey (no clay), so I think Oligocene if I compare images online.

Thanks! I read Hastalis sometimes have cusps when they are juvenile. Maybe its the same for Megs?

Yes,  some of those posts talk about recessive traits that appear in small teeth (<50 mm) but not present in larger teeth.  I have found that to be accurate in my experience in South West Florida.. We definitely have no Rics or Angys,  and likely Chubs because we do not have the fossil layers for Oligocene.

If it's Oligocene, it would be an angustidens.  I love the wavy or multiple cusps!
